Ice Machine Water Filters
70% of service calls for Ice Machines are water related
Good quality ice has a sparkle to it and when you serve a refreshing glass of ice water, you want it to look clean and crystal clear. Pentair Everpure® filtration solutions remove particulates that result in cloudy, “soft” ice, as well as reduce other contaminants causing off tastes and odours. In addition, our water treatment systems control scale buildup in ice making equipment to maintain peak operating efficiency and extend working life.
Filtration address challenges such as:
- Hard water can lead to cloudy, misshapen ice and “mushy”, fast-melting ice.
- High iron content can promote slime buildup inside machine and bin, which is not only unappealing but can also cause corrosion.
- Scale buildup can cause reduced ice production, longer harvesting cycles or complete machine “freeze up”.
- Dirt, sediment and scale can cause valves to stick which may result in continuously leaking water, bridging of cubes, or preventing ice production altogether.
- Scale on the water-cooled condenser coil can increase water usage.
- Metal corrosion due to chlorine and chlorides in water.
- Mineral solids, dirt and sediment can be abrasive, causing premature component wear.
Everpure water filters for ice machines – For Everyday Commercial Use
Scale Prevention (Phosphate) | 5 Micron Particulate Filtration | Taste and Odour Reduction
Everpure Ice Machine Water Filters with KDF Media
Enhanced with KDF® media to inhibit scale buildup that can damage equipment; scale can also cause excessive machine downtime, higher maintenance costs and increased energy costs
Everpure Ice Machine Water Filters with Phosphate
Enhanced with Phosphate Scale Inhibitor to reduce scale buildup that can damage equipment; scale can also cause excessive machine downtime, higher maintenance costs and increased energy costs
Everpure SI Carbonless Ice Filter by Pentair® – Specialty Use Filters
Protect your Ice Machine, without the slime buildup
Everpure® SI Ice Machine Series
The Evepure SI Filter is ideal for foodservice operations that have had problems with slime and bacteria growth in their ice machines and ice bins. An example is locations that do baking or brewing on site where yeast can cause biofilm growth. The Everpure SI cartridge features Fibredyne™ media without carbon which allows chlorine to pass through while still providing scale protection and particulate reduction.
- Ice Machine Protection: Integrated scale inhibition reduces scale damage that can increase service costs by causing “freeze-up” on the evaporator plate and in the bin, clogging of distribution lines, and disrupting of probes, pumps, solenoids, and valves
- Helps Reduce Slime: Allows chlorine to pass through to the ice machine, reducing the growth of bacteria leading to biofilm in the machine and bin.
- Superior Dirt Holding Capabilities: Fibredyne media provides superior dirt holding down to 0.5-micron.
Mounting Everpure filters into plumbing
Everpure Single Filter Heads and Manifolds
Single Filter Heads
Filter heads for 1 filter cartridge. QL1 has left to right horizonal inlet and outlet for compact underbench locations where height is at a premium. QL3B has left to right vertical inlet and outlet and features a built in water shutoff valve for filter changes. Both heads use a 3/8″F thread.
Multiple Filter Manifolds (Parallel)
Twin and triple manifold to utilise Everpure filters in parallel to increase the flow rate and capacity. Commonly used to feed high usage or multiple coffee machines from a single filter location on the wall. Just branch plumbing off after the filters system. Everpure Manifolds have 3/4″F Plumbing on the inlet and outlet
Water Specifications for Ice Machines
In General, the Chlorine level for Ice equipment should be less than 0.05ppm. Alkalinity, or Carbonate hardness levels should be below 150ppm. Alkalinity above this level accelerates the formation of scale. An alkalinity lower than 150ppm however doesn’t assure you of a scale free machine; there are many more factors to consider in understanding scale formation, but scale can be reduced through treatment of Alkalinity with a blendable hydrogen resin based softener such as Everpure’s Claris Ultra Water Filter Series. The Total Hardness should be <85ppm. It is the hardness reacting with the carbonates (alkalinity) that creates scale in Ice Machines. Scale buildup can cause reduced ice production, longer harvesting cycles or complete machine “freeze up”. Scale on the water-cooled condenser coil can increase water usage.
Selecting a Water Filter for Ice Machines
A good quality scale inhibitor will usually deal with these issues (KDF or Phospate), however if hardness is excessive and scale is still rapidly forming, consult Essential Services via our contact page for customised solutions. This is basically everything that is dissolved in the water (Hardness, Chloride etc.). Suggested levels for ice equipment is <100ppm. High levels of dissolved solids will drive scale or corrosion in your ice equipment depending on the characteristics of you water chemistry. Water with a pH lower than 7 is said to be acid and could, under extreme conditions, lead to corrosion of ice equipment. It is recommended that the pH be between 6.8 – 7.4. Chlorides are common around Australia, predominantly in WA but are also commonly found in SA and Queensland. Chlorides are extremely corrosive, even stainless steel can be affected. Due to the myriad of metals used in modern ice machines, it is difficult to put an exact figure on a safe limit, but if the chloride levels exceed 30 ppm then ideally some action should be taken. Chlorides can only be effectively removed through Reverse Osmosis. Softening filters have no effect and often make the situation worse by removing the hardness which was partially balancing out the Chloride’s aggressiveness.
